The fireproof performance of PVC waterproofing membrane is one of its important characteristics, mainly due to the chlorine element (Cl) and flame retardant additives contained in its composition. This characteristic gives it a significant advantage in specific scenarios. The following are the practical application advantages brought by its fireproof performance:
The core advantage of the fireproof performance of PVC waterproofing membrane
Flame retardant self-extinguishing
When PVC material burns in the flame, the chlorine element will decompose and release hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas, dilute the oxygen concentration, and form a carbonized layer to isolate the flame, making the material self-extinguishing (stop burning after leaving the fire source), effectively delaying the spread of fire.
High oxygen index (LOI)
The oxygen index of PVC membrane is usually above 28% (the oxygen index of ordinary materials is <21%), which means that a higher concentration of oxygen is required to continue burning, which can suppress combustion in the early stage of a fire.
Comply with building fire protection regulations
PVC waterproofing membrane can pass the B1 grade (flame-retardant material) certification in GB 8624-2012 “Classification of Combustion Performance of Building Materials and Products”, meeting most building fire protection design requirements.
